What mental disorder would make a person rant and rave on for an extended period without any apparent stimuli?

Other symptoms are intense focus on one person with sudden swings of extreme narcissistic behavior, inability to complete coherent sentences, anger, frustration.

Is this a manic stage of bipolar disorder, or does this person have something else going on?

Thanks in advance for your good answers. What mental disorder would make a person rant and rave on for an extended period without any apparent stimuli?
HI, without some more specific information, I cannot say for sure that this person's challenges are completely or can be completely attributed to a mood disorder, most likely Bipolar Disorder. However, this disorder shares many characteristics with other psychiatric challenges, such as: Post traumatic Stress Disorder, which is often misdiagnosed as some type of mood disorder, such as Bipolar Disorder. Further, many times, they co-exist, and it is not uncommon, for flare ups, mood dyscontrol episodes, anger dyscontrol, etc, without any outward, visible stimuli that would illicit such rants or out of control behaviors.

Another idea is a disorder called Schizoaffective disorder, which simply is a mixture of the unrealistic, sometimes psychotic symptoms, and mood dysregulation symptoms.

I would suggest that you or this individual contact your local community mental health center for assistance and the appropriate referral (s) to a psychiatric clinician, therapist, etc. Or, this individual could contact their primary care provider, explain the circumstances you described, and have the primary care provider refer this person to the appropriate psychiatric professionals.

I truly hope that this person gets follow up either at the aforementioned establishments/persons as the circumstances and symptoms' presentation sound if they are drastically and negatively impacting this individual's quality of life. Only a doctor would be able to make a diagnosis. It may be a mental problem, or it could also be physical. A doctor would have to look at everything in order to make any type of determination.
